Very operatic

“Everybody is always in the middle of their own opera.”

— Greta Gerwig

This week, the calendar is all about opera: LA Opera is busy launching their run of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, and the buzz is tremendous. Rumors abound of fantastic singing, and those are our favorite kind of rumors… You can learn more about that opera with one of LAO’s Zoom-driven Opera Talks, or show the kiddos what opera is all about with one of their “Sing Out Loud!” programs through LA Opera Connects.

But they’re not the only ones who are setting the stage alight. Look for the LA Opera Babes, as presented by the new series from the Athena Foundation. This charming series aims to throw a spotlight on a variety of arts, and is one to watch. Join the Babes on Saturday, and get on Athena’s mailing list so you’re in the loop.

Artists supported by The Opera Buffs return to DTLA’s Stowaway Bar on Sunday, for a fun take on great music, with or without the alcohol.

Coming up

Our community’s many choral organizations and independent artists are hard at work working up irresistible programs for the spring, so there is much to come. Next weekend, Independent Opera Company launches a run of the beloved RigolettoAngeles Chorale gets romantic, and LA Master Chorale‘s starry-eyed program continues an excellent and intriguing season. Any or all of these are just right for Valentine’s Day.

Keep bringing us those beautiful tunes… we’ll be listening!
