Some thoughts about the arts in pandemic:
As the coronavirus situation progresses, I’d like to send best wishes and warm thoughts to all of the performing organizations and the performers who are not only striving for community health, but who will face severe reduction in income, as well as increased expenses, in the coming months. This period is critical for the arts, and I hope that you’ll all support any of the smaller events that soldier on in what is fast becoming an arts calendar desert. Some organizations will go ahead with their smaller, scheduled events, with appropriate precautions and changes in place to keep everyone as safe as possible. Many are canceling, and will either postpone their events (if possible) or will simply lose that revenue.
What can you do?
Donate if you can. Support these organizations and individual artists on social media, and by subscribing to their mailing lists. Tell people about your last great experience with organizations that are forced to cancel, and encourage your friends to buy tickets for later events. Reach out to performing and presenting friends and relatives, and make sure they have what they need to survive this crisis. Stay positive, and look to the future.
Even if you’re stuck at home, you can support your arts community from afar, in a multitude of ways. Please take care of yourselves, and keep an eye out for ways to help our local artists and arts orgs bounce back from what has already been a very trying year.
About the Lauri’s List calendar
We’ve updated any events possible where we’ve been notified of postponement or cancellation. But please be sure to check presenter websites and your email Inbox before venturing out. All presenters are on alert right now, and some changes may be made later in the game than expected. If your event listing needs to be updated, please Contact us
And so, here are this week’s “three wishes”:
- Be safe
- Be sensible.
- Look to the future
…and we’ll all get through this together.
We’re cheering for you all, performing or not.
First, go to the List’s vocal events calendar and click the “Submit event” button at the top. (Basic listings are free, with lots of room for links, pictures and details!) This resource is “self-serve”, which means it’s up to presenters and performers to make sure their vocal events have been submitted. All of the listings in our automated Next 7 newsletter, as well as any blog and email features, come from what’s listed on this calendar. So start there, and please Contact us if you have additional pictures or details to submit for consideration. Thanks!
