“Three Wishes” — Southern California Vocal Events
LAURI D GOLDENHERSH’s Weekly Highlights from the
Clickable Chamber Music Newsletter
This is one of the biggest weekends of the year, and the calendar is packed! Don’t stay home… pick something and be festive. Here are three (or so) goodies to start with:
Kick off a stellar holiday run with the annual LA VIRGEN DE GUADALUPE, DIOS INANTZIN at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Performed in Spanish with English subtitles, this epic L.A. tradition tells a story that is deeply rooted in our history. The Cathedral’s website doesn’t seem to have much information about the performances Dec 6 & 7, but there are tickets available on Goldstar. Start with the calendar listing
Hallelujah! Saturday night brings a new twist on an old favorite as the CLAREMONT UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST offers and evening of “Messiah and More!“. With period instruments and seasonal favorites in addition to one of the most popular choral works in history, this is a concert that could change even the most jaded mind about Mr. Handel’s place in holiday fun. On the more operatic side, look for an ugly sweater-themed version of “La Boheme” from PACIFIC OPERA PROJECT, the beloved “Amahl and the Night Visitors” from MISSION OPERA, and the non-seasonal but always classic “Don Giovanni” from INDEPENDENT OPERA COMPANY. They’re all on the calendar.
But if you’re looking for something that’s musical but also individually experiential, consider “HollyTales4” from FIVE SENSES TASTINGS, for a song-filled evening of wine and chocolate, placing the focus on the drama of food and taste and something completely different. Get details
Wishing you all a gorgeous and very busy holiday season, and we’ll have more holiday frolics for you next week!

REMINDER: The Lauri’s List calendar is now “self-serve”, which means it’s up to presenters and performers to make sure their vocal events are on our calendar. Go to laurislist.com/calendar and click the “Submit event” button at the top. Basic listings are still free!
