This has been an interesting season, with genre-bending projects, choirs exploring a wider variety of thematic presentation than ever, and vocal types of all kinds giving some real thought to what they want to be doing… and in some cases, what they want to build.
So the fact that we’ve seen debuts by several new opera companies this year shouldn’t be too surprising, right? With activity and excitement everywhere we look, there is no doubt that the stage genre is thriving in SoCal.
We’ll share more on the blog next week, but look out for the premiere performances of I Pagliacci from Genesis Opera this weekend, the first production from Mission Opera next weekend, and the launch of Numi Opera soon thereafter. This is just the start, as we hear buzzing about new projects on a regular basis nowadays. Keep your eyes peeled, as this is just the tip of the operaberg!
