Artistic cross-relations

Art is art.

It may not seem that way, as painters don’t necessarily make music and cellists may not dance. But the intrinsic connection between acts of artistic creation is powerful, even palpable, and artists of all disciplines are cousins, even if removed by a degree or two.

The presenters at The Broad museum know this, and are celebrating their current exhibitions of works by visual artist Jasper Johns with a series of auxiliary events that illustrate some of his influences, which include composer John Cage and choreographer Merce Cunningham, who both collaborated with Johns back in the day.

This coming Wednesday evening, April 18, The Broad’s homage to these dynamic relationships comes as a concert entitled “Cross-Hatched | Impresarios, Inc.” With the combined forces of pianist Adam Tendler and vocal explorer Joan La Barbara, there will be no shortage of creative energy in the space. Tickets are just $25, and include admission to the exhibition. Bonus!
