Blending voices, woodwinds and organ: few knew this Baroque texture like ol’ Johann Sebastian. This particular combo gets a hearing this Saturday evening, with a concert of Bach arias and duets featuring soprano Hannah Waldman, tenor Jeff Greif, oboist David Kossoff, bassoonist John Campbell and organist Stephen Karr. From the press release:
Bach’s mastery of tone and affect is its most personal in his cantata and oratorio arias with voice, continuo and woodwind obbligato, which may sinuously weave around the voice, exult, weep or sigh along with it, or provide a jaunty dance rhythm, all helping to characterize the text.
Admission is free, but the event is a benefit for the Friends of Music fund at the Lutheran Church of the Master. Saturday, February 24, 8pm.
