‘Tis the season of concerts, caroling and sing-alongs. The Hollywood Master Chorale joins in on the fun this Sunday and launches into the holiday season with “Anticipate!“, a concert to delight with familiar holiday repertoire, and to present works of music that you may not have heard before.
You’ll hear the chorale, joined by singers from Arcadia High School and led by Dr. Stephen Puc, as they take a musical journey through the ages, featuring Craig Courteney’s “A Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas.” This amusing contemporary piece for SATB choir is sure to charm, with each section emulating a different style or composer — plainchant, Baroque, Mozart or Strauss. The concert will also feature Morten Lauridsen‘s Lux Aeterna, another wonderful work from the modern choral repertoire. This work blends ancient modes, polyphony and dissonance, resulting in an exquisite piece for choir. Plus, there’s even something for audience members who may be more inclined towards indie-folk or pop music: a rendition of Fleet Foxes‘ “White Winter Hymnal,” written by the band’s lead singer, Robin Pecknold.
