One of music’s most time-honored traditions is to mark an achievement, milestone or the influence of one of a community’s movers and shakers. This capacity for homage is also one of the most exciting powers of the art form, and de Angelis Vocal Ensemble has created a program that honors the very concept of honoring what is most important to us.
Using the lesser-known Omagio de Marenzio from Dutch 20th-century composer Hendrik Andriessen as a centerpiece, “Omaggio” will also include selections from Palestrina, Howells and Rutter. The single performance at San Juan Capistrano’s beautiful mission basilica takes place on Saturday, October 22. Feel free to leave your trumpets at home, as de Angelis has the fanfare fully covered.
