Lauri D. Goldenhersh’s Weekly Highlights

Hope you’re all staying cool and relatively smoke-free in this crazy heat wave! Staying indoors is good, but there are enticements to be had. Here are just three options over the next week that may lure you from home a/c to car a/c to event (hopefully with a/c):

161px-Eiffel_Tower_at_sunriseThis Friday, 6/24, SPACIOUS VISION brings the City of Lights to Glendale, with ‘Not Quite Paris Cabaret’, featuring wonderful local singers ARIEL PISTURINO, BERNARDO BERMUDEZ and GERALD SEMINATORE, as well as guitarist TARO WAYAMA, violinist DAVID LEE RUEST, and RON BARNETT at the piano. This benefit performance lets you set your donation amount at the door, and proceeds go to the “sister church” and their school that St. Mark’s, Glendale has adopted in Haiti. This program will also repeat as part of the Music@MiMoDa series in Los Angeles on 6/29. Click here

2016-06-26_Newman_requiem_flyerSunday afternoon, 6/26, composer MARIA NEWMAN conducts a work we could all use right now: her 1995 ‘Requiem: Mass for Peace’ has been hailed as “a defining work for the 21st century”, and is a salve for the soul. Get details

Last chance: SONGFEST has been going like gangbusters at the Colburn School for the last couple of weeks, and they’re wrapping up their 20th Anniversary season this weekend. Be sure to check out their full schedule so you can attend a morning or evening master class, or enjoy a concert you won’t forget. Check out the full schedule

And of course, unSUNg starts in July this year, with the first concert on Sun 7/10. We’ll be at St. Mark’s, Glendale again (thanks to all there!), but note that concerts are earlier this year: we start at 4pm, so all the vocal chamber goodness and I’ve-never-heard-that-before wonder has the whole evening to linger in your mind, before you head back into the busy week.

Hydrate, hydrate… (Yes, Mom.) Thank you, always, for supporting live singing!

Lauri D. Goldenhersh

*This post (usually) echoed from the weekly vocal events column in the Clickable Chamber Music Newsletter, serving nearly seven thousand music fans all over Southern California. The original is a text-based email newsletter, so images, links and details may differ in this enhanced version.

The Clickable Chamber Music Newsletter and Next 7 are both on summer schedule, publishing every two weeks through August and early September.  You can view our schedule here.  This year, we’re on alternate weeks with CCMN, so we’ll publish a vocal column every week, in one or the other publication.  Of course, we’ll echo it here on the blog, too — easy peasy!
