Dynamic trio coming to Fullerton on Tues 2/9
Sadly, the art of the recital has changed dramatically in the last few decades: this intimate, versatile format is now neglected, and too often left only to students, traveling celebs and the occasional fundraiser. But this Tuesday, we’ll have a chance to see a visiting ensemble who spins the recital-style concert extremely well, drawing from the time-honored salon tradition as well as modern cabaret to create a stylish contemporary upgrade to the same old thing.
Mirror Visions Ensemble, based on the other coast, is a trio full of talent, charm and a knack for entertainment as well as interpretation. Their repertoire, as you can see from an exemplary electronic press kit (take note, Listers!), is eclectic and extensive, and gives the group the flex power needed for mashup-driven programming and exploratory collaboration. This concert is slated for a mix of songs from opera and Italy-connected specialties, including a group of old Italian songs made new by composer Richard Pearson Thomas. It all sounds tre-lightful.
