Farewell, West Coast Auditions

UPDATED Nov 2016:  Dead link alert!  The website has (probably long) since been dismantled, but the Facebook page is still available.

A valued rite of passage for opera hopefuls, the West Coast Auditions have announced their own demise on Facebook via a short post (copied below).  This annual ritual in San Jose, CA has provided valuable opportunities to both managed and unmanaged singers since their founding in 1997, but will no longer be hosting the event, according to an announcement posted on October 24, 2014.

Audition opportunities for residents of our “other” coast can still be found on YAP Tracker, on the Classical Singer website, and occasional regional auditions held by the Southern California Opera Network (SCON).  Check websites for the specific companies you’re interested in — many have audition instructions on their sites, and may even allow you to sign up for audition notifications.  And of course, Lauri’s List will continue to list many operatic opportunities each year, as part of our broader mission.

Announcement follows.

FACEBOOK, October 24, 2014 — After 16 years, the decision was made to close down the West Coast Auditions. There have been some terrific artists who were heard, many contracts that were offered and it was a success story beyond what was originally conceived. But, the time had come focus on other aspects of the business.

For those of you who are still interested in the Irene Dalis Vocal Competition, it will be necessary to contact Opera San Jose for details about future events.

Best of luck to everyone that participated in these auditions. Keep on singing!
