Center Stage Opera takes ‘La Traviata’ to 1930s Berlin
We seem to have plenty of Verdi in SoCal right now. But don’t confuse the two productions of La Traviata coinciding over the next week or so — while LA Opera focuses on froth and free will (see preview below), Center Stage Opera sets the story later, in a city that is about to tear the world apart.
The new production is double cast, starring Shira Renee Thomas and Rachelle Woolston as Violetta, and Dylan F. Thomas (who also directs) and Matthew Miles as Alfredo. With orchestra led by music director Brian Onderdonk and a cast of favorite local performers, it looks like this show will be thought-provoking as well tear-producing.
