SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA VOCAL EVENTS
Lauri D. Goldenhersh’s Weekly Highlights
There’s nothing like the smorgasbord of culture available in LA, and this is a particularly diverse week:
Let’s start with the big guns. The much-beloved opera, ‘Falstaff‘ comes to LA OPERA this weekend. Featuring baritone ROBERTO FRONTALI in the title role and conducted by JAMES CONLON, you can learn more about the production by checking out the tweets from the dress rehearsal — click here. Friday night is your last chance to catch ‘Invisible Cities‘ at Union Station: there are two performances, at 7:30pm and 10pm. This immersive opera is so cutting-edge that it was cited this week by Forbes as a prime example of experience marketing. But as we know, THE INDUSTRY is about art, too. We’re rooting for them to continue creating these completely unique, unforgettable shows. Don’t miss this one if you can help it. Wanna read the Forbes article (and perhaps comment, to thank the magazine for giving the arts some primo ink?) Click here
More opera is available from THE THERESE PROJECT (Saturday) and LA MET (‘Il Trovatore‘, continuing through Sunday). The latter’s artistic director, LINDA JACKSON, will be interviewed on KUSC on Saturday morning, if you’d like to learn more — check the calendar for details.
The ever-innovative JACARANDA marks the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht with ‘Shattered Glass‘ on Saturday night. Their concerts often sell out — get details and snap up your tix by clicking here.
Other offerings in town include the ‘Singers’ Choice‘ concerts from LONG BEACH CAMERATA SINGERS (Sat & Sun); a concert of French delights at All Saints’ Beverly Hills (‘Ars-Gallica‘, Sunday); and SPACIOUS VISION’s Britten tribute in Glendale (‘Britten in Song‘, Sunday).
Get out there and get yourselves sung to!
