This week’s Hidden Gem got me thinking about programming concepts, cyclical structure, nested ideas… and I just had to share:
This set of Russian matryoshka nesting dolls is one of my most prized possessions, a carefully selected, hand-carried gift from my mother-in-law after a trip to Russia. I have no idea how she tracked it down — it’s hand-painted, and a good size: Tchaikovsky is about 9 inches tall, Shostakovich about an inch and a half. Thought y’all might enjoy.
This begs the question, of course… if you could have a set of your own, who would you choose? Any great categories or patterns come to mind? Any composers whose noggins would lend themselves to a shape like this? Hmmm…
