Local singers get ready
for an enchanted African April
With more evidence that opera is truly global, soprano Lindsay Feldmeth and mezzo Nandani Sinha offer a special benefit concert this Sunday to support the No. 1 Ladies’ Opera Festival, taking place in April in Gaborone, Botswana. Conceived as the result of international coincidence and growing interest in both opera and women’s issues in the region (read the backstory here), the festival is designed “to equip and inspire emerging artists in Southern Africa while bringing attention to women’s issues through musical performance”, and has been sponsored and endorsed by an array of individuals and entities from Southern California and beyond. Read more about the festival itself on the website developed by Feldmeth (aka “The Globetrotting Soprano“, with an excellent blog, to boot). Sunday’s concert will feature “Powerful Women in Opera“, with arias and duets from beloved repertoire, performed by Feldmeth and Sinha, with pianist Douglas Sumi. RSVP is required, as the concert takes place at a lovely private residence in Altadena. Location and details will be provided upon reservation. Can’t go? Send them some love with a little donation.
