Long Beach Opera has never shrunk from a juicy piece of literature, and their new production of Philip Glass‘ take on the 1839 horror classic is no exception. Under the baton of artistic director Andreas Mitisek, the company explores the depths of Edgar Allan Poe‘s mad tale of bizarre family tragedy with the talents of soprano Suzan Hanson as Madeline; Ryan McPherson as Roderick; Lee Gregory as William (a character without a name in the original text); and featuring tenor Jonathan Mack and bass Nicholas Shelton. Directed by Ken Cazan, this is a co-production with Chicago Opera Theater, who will present the show Feb 23 – Mar 1.
