CCMN: Vocal events through 11/25/12

Southern California Vocal Events
  LAURI D. GOLDENHERSH’s Weekly Highlights

With Thanksgiving closer than we think, and some of the cultured fleeing for colder climes, the next two weekends are fairly light on events.  We’ll be dark next week, so let’s take a look at what can make your staycation grand:

Puccini’s beloved ‘Madama Butterfly‘ opens at LA OPERA this weekend; and Hoiby’s ‘The Tempest‘ continues at USC (two performances left!).  The LA MASTER CHORALE performs Monteverdi’s unique Vespers 1610 at Disney Hall on Sunday night; and the Segerstrom Center in Orange County hosts two Beethoven events that choral singers can’t get enough of: the Missa Solemnis and the Ninth Symphony, both performed by the ORCHESTRE REVOLUTIONNAIRE ET ROMANTIQUE and the MONTEVERDI CHOIR, directed by SIR JOHN ELIOT GARDINER.  Get details and tickets on these two by clicking:

Think we’re done? Not a chance:  SALASTINA MUSIC SOCIETY celebrates Debussy’s 150th; LONG BEACH OPERA celebrates their upcoming ‘House of Usher‘ (premiering in January) with a screening of the classic film; and Palisades Presbyterian church presents Haydn’s ‘Creation‘ on Sunday, directed by JAMES VAIL and featuring soloists MARIANA RAMIREZ, JOSEPH BUHLER, and tenor JONATHAN MACK as the Archangel Uriel.  Admission is free — any other questions?  Get details, so you can get there, by clicking:

COMING UP:
Don’t miss the single performance of ‘Carmen: In Concert‘ from the new BEYOND THE STAGE PRODUCTIONS.  Come to Founder’s Center Auditorium on December 1 to eat, drink, and experience opera in an immersive experience filled with dancers, graffiti, street performers and more.  Get tickets NOW, and get details by clicking:

Raise a drumstick for me, and as always, thank you for supporting live singing!
