Hidden Gems: Delicious and ghastly

(perhaps even both!)

Boo!  The ghouls of October have arrived, and their activities this week (rehearsal schedules, flu bugs and all) leave us with a truncated issue of Next 7.  But use this as an excuse to take a look at just a few of the spectacular items in SoCal’s vocal foliage (and a few non-vocal items that are keeping our Listers busy):

Where the Wild Things Are
Los Angeles Philharmonic
Continuing through Sun Oct 14

Ruddigore (Gilbert & Sullivan)
Sierra Madre Playhouse
Continuing through Nov 10

Sweeney Todd (left)
Pacific Opera Project
Oct 20 – Nov 4

Wicked Lit (theater)
Oct 12 – 31
(you won’t see her, but Carolyn Schultz is stage manager for one of the three plays)

Dark Harbor at the Queen Mary
Continuing through Oct 31
(watch for Paul Sobosky at the piano and elsewhere!)

More and more, as Halloween fever takes over each fall, the holiday grows bigger than Christmas, and fills our fall with activity (and potential jobs).  We’ll take a deeper look into this trend in a future blog post.  In the meantime, get your flu shot, be well, and we’ll see you next week!
