Cross-genre performer explores other boundaries, through composers from Spain, France and Brazil
Valencia Vas, known as “Heidi” to friends, makes chameleons look bland. Fully classically trained with impressive musical chops, acting ability and a devoted cadre of students, she steps in and out of genres with ease. After overcoming significant obstacles in her own life, she lives and works within her mission to create and explore beautiful music and offer it as a part of others’ lives as well. This creative spirit echoes those of the composers she celebrates on Sunday, with a program of early 20th-century masters from three very different countries, but whose shared Latin sensibilities make the combination of their vocal works a logical yet evocative mix. Well worth the trek for those who live beyond TOaks’ backyard, the ticket price (gratis) makes gas prices moot. Get out there.
