Guild Opera comes to Glendale with a valentine to singers
There is, perhaps, no company in town with such a storied history as Guild Opera. Founded in 1949, nearly four decades before LA Opera gained its footing, the Guild was performing opera for children and beyond, and has cast the likes of operatic titans such as Marilyn Horne, Heinz Blankenburg and Mary Costa. Now led by artistic director Gabriel Reoyo-Pasas, the group is champion to opera in general, grand classics, and new works such as ‘The Treasure of California‘, penned by Reoyo-Pasas and premiered at their 2009 anniversary do. The company offers a variety of programs at venues all over Southern California.
This Sunday afternoon, maestro Frank Fetta leads 11 Guild performers in a program of ‘Songs Singers Love to Sing‘, in a celebration of opera and song. Company members attend free, and tickets are only $10 others. Take a sweetie, or at least someone sweet.
