The Don you can’t refuse

POP's 'Don Giovanni'Don Giovanni isn’t just an opera character, nor is he just a legendary lover. He’s a force to be reckoned with. This powerful opera, long an audience favorite among Mozart’s works, centers on the overwhelming personality, charisma and… (ahem).. skills of an aristocratic cad who must eventually atone for his almost superhuman passions. The piece has everything: sensational tunes, great pathos, masked revelry, irresistible seduction, flirtatious comedy, ghosts, murder, and terrifying judgment. But the opera is also about influence — not only Giovanni’s over his conquests, but the pull of the others who love them, and their attempts to save the objects of their affection. There is no mere love triangle here: this story requires many more sides.

Pacific Opera Project has proven themselves already, with this summer’s sold-out performances of ‘Trouble in Tahiti’ helping to spread the word about this inventive new company. This production features two casts of equally high potential, who together are an impressive collection of talented young performers with fine voices and some serious comedic skills. Performed at the Miles Memorial Playhouse in Santa Monica, you’ve got five performances to choose from — pick two, so you can see both casts!
